TIMELINE
2001 – Pendragon Pictures begin filming a modern version of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS that takes place in
the Seattle area and includes mass destruction of cities and people. September 11th occurs soon after and the project is shelved for the time being.
2003 – Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise announce they plan to create their own adaptation of THE WAR OF THE
WORLDS. The movie is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2006.
2004 – Pendragon Pictures secretly begins re-filming their own rendition of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS
under the cover title "The Great Boer War". Release is scheduled for March, 2005 – more than a year before the
Spielberg/Cruise collaboration is to be completed. News of this leaks out and the Spielberg/Cruise film's release date is bumped
up a full year to June 2005.
2005 – "Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS" album is re-released in true Dolby 5.1 Surround
Sound format.
March 29 2005 – Pendragon Pictures' version of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS is released. Unlike
the upcoming Spielberg/Cruise film, this version is a direct telling of the original novel and takes place in
Victorian England.
